Benefits of Exercise

I want to begin by stating that the benefits of exercise are absolutely priceless.

I visited my doctor about 10 years ago and the news was not good. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, I was more than a few pounds overweight and my doctor was not happy.

I asked about medication that I could go on, and he vehemently shook his head. “You need to eat healthier and start exercising,” he replied. I took his advice and could not believe the results.

I had always known that there were countless benefits of exercise, but I am still amazed at how things turned out for me.

I took my doctor's advice and got onto a balanced diet and exercise program. I cut out all red meats and fried foods. Fast food was completely out of the question, and I quit drinking sodas entirely.

I started out by walking and doing light weightlifting for my exercise program, and within a few weeks, I could already see some of the benefits of exercise. I also bought an inexpensive book on the benefits of exercise called Move Yourself, you can see inside it if you click here.

First and foremost, my pants fit more comfortably and the buttons on my shirt were not fighting for their lives by the time lunch was over. My blood pressure was also down.

It was not completely normal yet, but it was out of the red zone and my doctor was quite happy, as that was what he was most concerned about at the time.

He had always talked to me about the benefits of exercise, and I guess I never really listened until my health was actually at stake.

I also noticed that I was not sweating as much as I used to, and I was not as out of breath as I used to get.

The benefits of exercise were now manifesting themselves into my outward demeanor, and I have to admit, I really, really liked it.

My posture started to improve and the sleeves of my shirt were filling out better, and everyone was starting to notice.

Within three months, my blood pressure was within normal range, I had lost 40 pounds, and my cholesterol was approaching the coveted 200 mark.

My doctor informed that me that even with all of the benefits of exercise, we could not always beat our genes, and my father and older brother both had high cholesterol, so I pretty much knew that would be the last to drop.

Of all of the benefits of exercise that I personally encountered, however, the biggest was the confidence that it gave me and how well I felt physically.

I was no longer sluggish, I could and wanted to go out and do more activities and be more active, and my wife and children were happy because they knew I would be around for a while. It was a great experience for me.
